Of all the numbers to open a final stretch on, this is the one that would have you check the foundations before you check the ambitions. Four is ground. Order, foundations, the unglamorous parts that hold everything else up. Four days feel ordinary, and they're supposed to. Nothing arrives with fanfare. What a 4 lays down shows up months later, when you've forgotten you laid it. There's relief in that if you let there be. Not every day has to sparkle to be working. Four can feel heavy, the sense that things are slower than they should be. That's the number, and it passes tomorrow. Nothing dramatic needs to happen today for today to count. A four builds the structure. A five needs a door in it. Put both in one chart and you get somebody who will spend three months setting a system up properly and then feel trapped by it a month later. That is the argument, and it never resolves. The 4 in them says this is how you stop your life being chaos. The 5 in them says this is how your life stopped being interesting. Both sides have evidence. Between two people it is the holiday conversation. One wants the flights booked in March. The other wants to decide at the airport. Neither of them is being difficult, and each is certain they are the reasonable one. What works, when it works, is building the structure with the exit already in it.
