# Life Path 1, the number that goes first

| Dear Reader, This is the first one, so it seems right to start where the numbers start. A woman wrote to me last month to say she had quit her job on a Tuesday morning with nothing lined up. "I don't know what came over me," she said. "I just couldn't ask one more person for permission." So I looked up her birthday. She is a Life Path 1, which doesn't explain what she did, plenty of people walk out of jobs and have nothing to do with the number 1, but it does explain the shape of it. The suddenness. The going alone. Shape is what these numbers give you. Not a prediction of what somebody will do, a sense of how they tend to do it. Each morning I'll take one and tell you what it carries. Some mornings that will be the number sitting under the date. Some mornings it will be the one that keeps turning up on your clock, or the pair of numbers making a mess of each other in the same room, or a letter somebody sent me that I could not stop thinking about. Sundays are short and ask nothing of you at all. None of it is homework. You're not behind on anything here. ✦ Life Path in focus ✦ 1 Life Path 1 is independence, leadership, nerve and beginnings. Ones tend to build their own road rather than walk one that is already there, so it shows up as a business of your own, or working alone, or any job where you get to decide. What a 1 is really learning is to trust an idea before anybody else agrees with it. If it's your number, you've probably spent stretches of your life feeling unlike the people around you. Being told what your future ought to look like goes down badly. (My guess is you've heard "be realistic" more than once.) There's a harder lesson underneath it. Independence slides quietly into isolation, and it happens most when you believe the whole thing rests on you. Taking help costs you none of your power. It took me years to believe that. The woman who walked out on a Tuesday, by the way, is fine. She told me the strange part was not the leaving. It was how long she had been waiting for somebody to tell her she was allowed to. You don't have to be a 1 for any of this to reach you. The number is in the air today whoever you are, and nothing needs doing with it. Just notice where it turns up. ✦ ✦ ✦ Your own number Your Life Path comes out of your full birth date, and if you only ever learn one number, learn this one. Reduce the month, the day and the year each to a single digit, then add those three together. Leave 11, 22 and 33 as they are. Someone born on 3 February 1988 Month: February = 2 Day: 3 Year: 1 + 9 + 8 + 8 = 26, then 2 + 6 = 8 2 + 3 + 8 = 13, then 1 + 3 = 4. A Life Path 4. Work yours out whenever you have a quiet minute.
