1234 is the sequence that turns up in the middle
Not every sequence repeats. Plus the short list of people who actually listen to you.

Tuesday, 29 September 2026 9 + 2 + 9 + 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 30 → 3 + 0 = 3 Dear Reader, Three is the number of expression, and every time I write about it I end up writing about talking. Today the other side of it. Being heard and being listened to are different things, and most of us can name, instantly, the handful of people who do the second one. It is a short list, and a good deal shorter than anybody expects. A 3 day tends to surface that. You will mention something in passing and somebody will pick it up four days later and ask how it went, and you will realise how rare that is. Threes give this away constantly and receive it far less often. Whoever makes everybody else feel heard usually has the fewest names of anyone in the room. Nothing needs arranging today. Just notice who is on yours. Which one is tugging at you?
✦ ✦ ✦ The one that keeps finding you Not every sequence repeats. 1234 is the one that counts. Readers report it differently to the triples. A 111 or a 555 feels like a nudge. 1234 feels like being shown a staircase, which is either reassuring or mildly patronising depending on the week you are having. It turns up most for anybody midway through something long. A renovation, a qualification, a slow recovery, a book. Rarely at the start. Almost never at the end. The middle is where you stop being able to see the shape of the thing you are doing, and 1234 is a very literal answer to that. I hold it lightly, the way I hold all of them. But of all the sequences it is the hardest one to get wrong. Things are in an order, you are somewhere inside it, and the next part follows the one you are standing on. That is less exciting than a portent. It is also more often useful. Sit with one of these:
You are somewhere in the order today. That is the whole of what it says.
A big hug, P.S. If you are midway through something long, so is almost everybody. It is the least lonely place in the newsletter.
